“We are Gaybours” community screenings - IDAHOT

A world without discrimination is the goal but we are not there yet.
May 17th is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia (IDAHOT), aiming to raise awareness of LGBT rights violations and stimulate interest in LGBT rights work worldwide.
This year the Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival is supporting IDAHOT with a community event called “We are Gaybours.” We are reaching out to a wider audience in To Kwa Wan and Sham Shui Po, two neighbourhoods that still remain authentic in local cultures and history.
A collection of shorts will be screened, and LGBT members will get a chance to share their lived experiences (conducted in Cantonese).
All are welcome to join-- men, women, trans and non-binary; straight, gay, lesbian, bi, and others.
The event is FREE to all, and donations are encouraged for the sponsoring venues!
Hope to see you there!

In light of the unequal treatment of Hong Kong laws to the rights of same-sex marriage abroad (including rights to public housing residency, and inheritance) the couple initiated two judicial reviews. In 2019, the High Court ruled in favour of the equal right to inheritance, but the government soon decided to appeal the ruling. Edgar unfortunately passed away at the end of 2020. This year, Henry is once again launching a legal bid for recognition, after being denied the right to organise his husband’s funeral.
