Hello to our lovely audiences,
Coral is a traditional gift idea for the 35th wedding anniversary. It symbolises strength, longevity, and success. This year marks the 35th milestone anniversary of the Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. The coral has inspired the graphics and colours on the guidebook and the vibrant programme this year. We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with our audiences and recognise the progress we have made over the years in promoting LGBTQ cinema. Your unwavering support and enthusiasm have been instrumental in making this festival a significant platform for queer voices and stories from around the globe.
I am very proud of this year’s programme. We are featuring international films from five continents, spanning genres such as drama, romance, family, coming-of-age, and comedy. In addition to our usual offerings like our Opening, Closing, Asian Focus, etc., we have a special programme, Silver Screen Seniors, with two films about senior queer individuals and couples. Some of our festival fans, like myself, are growing more grey hair. As our community gets older, it is essential that the HKLGFF continues to share diverse LGBTQ stories that resonate with viewers of all ages. You are sure to find films at this year’s festival that speak to your own live experiences.
This year, HKLGFF is offering discount tickets for selected films, including docs about senior LGBT+ indivduals (IF I DIE, IT’LL BE OF JOY), Fire Island (A HOUSE IS NOT A DISCO), and the diverse experience of transgender men (DESIRE LINES).
This is our third year organising the Short Film Screenplay Competition. Our winner from last year turned her winning screenplay into a short film. We would like to hear more local queer stories. All you need to do is start writing scripts and join us in the future.
Don’t forget our signature opening and closing parties. We will have drag shows, DJs, drinks, and lots of fun.
Go buy tickets now.
See you all in the cinema.
